The National Association of Head Teachers (NAHT) – an independent trade union and professional association representing school leaders – seeks to enable education leaders to thrive and survive in today’s ever changing landscape. Headlines was briefed to create a vibrant community channel for its 43,000+ members, reflecting the organisation’s values and goals, with an aim of making it the sector’s premier voice.
Headlines repositioned Leadership Focus, a 52-page, bi-monthly magazine targeted at senior leaders in school, and NAHT Life, a 12-page, termly magazine targeted at retired members, into a 64-page, termly, A4 magazine for all NAHT and NAHT edge members. Headlines provided all the editorial, design and advertising, creating one, streamlined publication suitable for middle and senior education leaders as well as retired and part-time educationalists. Retaining the recognised name Leadership Focus, the magazine was relaunched as a bright, authoritative, balanced journal which leaves the reader richer for reading, increasing two-way engagement. Plans are in place to develop a communications app, which will further enable members to stay in touch and non-members to engage with the organisation at anytime, anywhere.
The relaunched magazine has been a resounding success with all the various member groups, with those mentioned in articles reporting increased contact from colleagues across the sector. Interest in initiatives communicated in it has been unprecedented and the communications team at NAHT is delighted with the response. Members have described the new look and content as fresh, modern and easy to read. There is more interest in NAHT and NAHT edge as a consequence and members are more informed about what NAHT and NAHT edge are doing on certain key issues.
