La Louve, Private garden in Luberon

La Louve, Private garden in Luberon

We asked our team to tell us about their favourite ever piece of design. It could be a logo, a building, an object (shoes, gadgets, product packaging). The only criteria was that they consider it a thing of beauty and have an emotional connection to it.

“A beautiful garden in the South of France that is also a work of art.”

Why do you love it? What does it mean to you?

Beautifully simple, but in fact edited and planned in every detail. It looks effortless, but took 10 years to complete. Every time I see the garden, it inspires me to create my own – once I have the space and the time to do it!

What are your favourite aspects of it?

The garden was designed by Nicole de Vesian, who was a textile designer for Hermès in the 50s and 60s. She created La Louve as a work of art first, intricately planning each aspect of it and carefully selecting local plants and trees that she knew would grow and flourish in that location.

After 10 years of working on the garden, Nicole decided to sell the garden and start a new one, so it was bought by an art collector – Judith Pillisbury – as a finished canvas,

At every turn, there's a perfectly composed still life.

When you see the garden, what memories does it bring back?

Childhood holidays to France.
