New decade – new expectations

It’s a new decade – but how prepared are you for meeting members’ expectations in 2020?

It’s the perfect opportunity to reflect on what your members really want and how to provide it.

Demonstrating genuine care for your membership doesn’t have to be expensive though – it just needs a bit of common sense and care on the part of your organisation.

Time

Since your time is precious, sharing it is one of the most generous things you can do. The ability to engage with you could be hugely beneficial to people in your network. Why not put aside some time to hold dedicated one-to-ones, host a Q&A-style webinar or simply email contacts to ask if they need any assistance.

Guidance

As an industry professional you’ll have a wealth of expertise on a wide range of issues. You’ll have a clear understanding of relevant issues and new developments, as well as a keen eye on emerging trends. Not all members will be as ‘plugged in’ to the industry as you are, presenting a great opportunity for you to advise them.

Connections

Membership is all about connecting to share thoughts, insights and ideas with other people. Why not put people in touch with valuable connections? Identify who has a particular need and who could assist them. Or make connections that would be mutually beneficial to all parties.

Clear outcomes

With so many networking and development opportunities these days – many of them free – it’s more important than ever to shout about the unique benefits your association offers and the positive outcomes that can result. Help people to see the tangible benefits that come from membership and make it clear how these can/will be achieved.

Ultimately, your members all want to feel supported and secure in their careers, regardless of their industry. By making a gift of your time, going above and beyond to offer guidance, proactively driving connections and reassuring people of the benefits you provide, you’ll be on the right path to retaining and growing your member base in 2020 and across the decade.
